OMK's Belgorod Facility Acquires Capability for New Product for Nuclear Industry

The Belgorod Power Engineering Plant (OOO Belenergomash-BZEM, Belgorod, a United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) subsidiary) has acquired capability for seamless stamped housings for pipeline valves from austenitic stainless steel to be used at nuclear power plants (NPPs), which is a new product for the sector.

Thanks to the use of austenitic steel (corrosion-resistant and alloyed with chrome and nickel), the new product has elevated corrosion resistance properties and can be operated in aggressive environments. In addition, the shape of the blanks being delivered is virtually identical to the shape of the final product requiring minimum machining. This helps customers save time when making pipeline valves and use less metal than when utilizing standard forgings that need to undergo lengthy machining down to the required dimensions.

This new Belenergomash product is already on order for the Energopotok Power Engineering Equipment Facility (AO ZEO Energopotok, Sarov, Nizhniy Novgorod Region), a major manufacturer of NPP pipeline valves, for Kursk NPP-2 and the Rooppur NPP (Bangladesh). Deliveries to Turkey and India are also planned.

"We are working continuously to improve our product quality and reliability, expanding our product range, and actively implementing the most recent developments from our designers, advanced technologies, and innovative approaches. We work with every customer directly offering specific solutions to improve our product performance, extend product service lives, save on metal and reduce lead times", commented OOO Belenergomash-BZEM Director for Forging Operations Igor Khaniukov.
