VSW Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility Produced Over 10.6 Million Tons of Coil in Its 10 Years of Operation

The Vyksa Steel Works (AO VSW, Vyksa, Nizhniy Novgorod Region, a United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) subsidiary) Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility has produced over 10.6 million tons of hot-rolled coils in its 10 years of operation, thereby becoming an important link in the fully domestic supply chain of oil and gas pipes.

The Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility is the only one of its kind in Russia, combining, as it does, steelmaking, casting, and hot rolling in a single process. One of the facility's unique features is that its manufacturing cycle is only 3.5 hours. It takes over 24 hours for other steelmaking facilities to make similar product.

On the day of its 10th anniversary, the Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility was visited by Secretary of State, Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov, Pavel Servatinsky, Director of Metal Making and Materials Department at the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Acting Deputy Nizhniy Novgorod Regional Governor and Deputy Prime Minister Igor Nossov, OMK Board of Directors Chair Anatoly Sedykh, OMK Governance Board Chair Natalya Eremina, and representatives of both Russian and international OMK partners.

"Metal making is a fundamental and primary industry. Without expanding our steel production, the manufacture of sheet metal, pipe, train wheels, we will not be competitive. Facilities that take advantage of state-of-the-art technologies and equipment, that optimize all their business processes, that make extended use of digital technologies help develop our entire industry. VSW makes competitive product that few other facilities worldwide are capable of manufacturing. The only thing we can do is wish the facility well and celebrate together with the region. The other important thing is that the facility meets its social obligations by developing the areas in which it operates", noted Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov following the VSW visit.

"Vyksa Steel Works is more than just a major taxpayer in the Nizhniy Novgorod Region. It is also a beacon of corporate social responsibility. Our partners from OMK are an example of collaboration with local and regional authorities further to improve the lives of Vyksa's residents. The Company has many new projects to develop its production in Vyksa, and all the required support from the regional government will be provided", said Acting Deputy Governor and Deputy Prime Minister Igor Nossov.

"The primary outcome of the 10 years of operation of the Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility is the ability to manufacture pipe steel grades for the most demanding applications on a very compressed schedule. As far as manufacturing performance is concerned, the Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility is globally the best in its class. We are not content to tread water but rather are planning to increase production 20%, or up to 1.5 million tons of rolled goods a year. We are learning to make new steel grades that are in demand in the domestic energy sector", noted OMK Board of Directors Chair Anatoly Sedykh.

BACKGROUND:

The 10 years of history at the Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility are a path of great accomplishments: over the past several years alone, the team at the Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility has set dozens of manufacturing records. Year after year, the Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility has invariably re-confirmed its status as one of the most efficient metal making facilities in the nation by making its steel output exceed its design capacity on more than one occasion.

Currently, the facility employs some 1,200 people.
