OMK Wins Drive to Do Good Nomination for Developing Social Business Initiatives

The contribution of the United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK) to the development of social business initiatives has been recognized with a Drive to Do Good award from the Our Future Foundation of Regional Social Programs.

The prize is awarded annually to social business people, public personalities, and companies that support and develop social businesses in Russia. OMK was recognized by the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs for the best corporate program to develop social business initiatives.

OMK Governance Board Chair Natalya Eremina received the award from Elena Feoktistova, Director of the RUIE Corporate Responsibility, Sustainable Development, and Social Business Directorate.

"For the first time in history today, we are giving the second award in a row to the same company. But that is not coincidence at all: over the past year, the OMK Start Your Own Business Program made a major break-through and showed brilliant results as far as we are concerned. And most importantly, this initiative received a very good response both from local and regional government authorities, and even those that initially were very distrustful of it. It was OMK that, by being pro-active and by believing that everything would fall into place, was able to create these partnerships. That is why this award today is going where it is due", noted Elena Feoktistova in her speech.

To support social business people, OMK developed a program comprising an educational component, the Start Your Own Business Competition for Grants, and an accelerator for social projects. The program 2017-2018 outcomes were recognized with an award. Over the course of two years, the Company supported 68 social business initiatives in the town of Chusovoy, Perm Territory, the town of Vyksa, Nizhniy Novgorod Region, and the town of Blagoveshchensk, Republic of Bashkortostan. The total amount issued in grants was RUB 10.6 million. Social business people created over 140 jobs. Three projects were implemented by handicapped persons.

"We are certain that social business initiatives will become the key to mitigating many urgent social problems in monotowns, to making residents more pro-active, and to developing the various regions of our great nation. We are being recognized for this program the second year in a row. But that makes us approach what we do to develop social business initiatives in areas that the Company works in in an ever more responsible manner. Every year, we try and raise the bar and try and go to ever greater heights", noted Natalya Eremina.
