VSW Hosts Delegates of Second Electrosteel International Industrial Conference

Attendees at the Second International Conference “Electrosteel: Technologies, Equipment, Materials” that is being held in Russia between February 13 and 15, 2018 went on a two-day work visit to Vyksa Steel Works (AO VSW, Nizhny Novgorod Region, a United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) Subsidiary).

The Conference focused on operational issues related to electric arc steel furnaces. The facility became a forum for an exchange of best practices in the field of steel making.

On February 13 while in Moscow, the industrial conference attendees discussed contemporary trends and current issues of arc furnace steel making, reviewed systematic approaches to improving both the technical and the commercial performance of steel making installations, to enhancing their potential. Employees from Vyksa Steel Works shared their lessons learned from using shredded scrap to make steel in arc furnaces.

On February 14 and 15, over 50 representatives of domestic and international steel makers and companies went on a tour of one of the nation’s most advanced metal making facilities: the VSW Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility commissioned in 2008. The Conference attendees were shown the entire casting and rolling process with special emphasis on steel making and told about efforts to improve product quality and development prospects. VSW specialists also spoke of successes in improving the efficiency of the steel-making facility by refining the production system.

“Over the past few years, our Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility has been among the best performers globally for efficiency and has led the productivity ratings twice. VSW has become a recognized global leader in building a manufacturing culture. We have been very pleased to share our experiences in producing arc-furnace steel with colleagues from Russia and other countries”, noted AO VSW Managing Director Alexander Barykov.
