In October 2018, the OMK-Uchastiye Charity Support Foundation for Families, Children and Parents will be celebrating its 10th anniversary.
The foundation, established through an initiative by managers and employees of the United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow), offers targeted aid to people in need or families and children in difficult circumstances, supports medical institutions, develops educational and medical techniques, holds inclusive events in locations that are home to OMK's facilities.
Over the decade, the OMK-Uchastiye Foundation has supported 1,180 families. Donors and the Foundation's founders raised 48,000,000 rubles that were used as targeted aid to its charges and a further 18,000,000 that were used to procure medical equipment.
OMK-Uchastiye is constantly expanding its activities. Presently, the Foundation undertakes educational programs, including those for teachers working with handicapped children. It collaborates with the Research Institute for Pediatric Oncology under the N. N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center in Moscow by purchasing medical equipment and hosting events for the patients of the center's pediatric ward. It arranges for annual summer vacations for orphaned children. The Foundation hosts regular charity events, such as "With Love in Your Heart", "Children to Children", "Going Back to School", "Donate a Christmas Tree", and many others. Since 2015, the Foundation has been sponsoring “Who’s Running? Everybody!” charity races in areas where OMK does business. For over 15 years, the foundation has been hosting New Year shows for its charges at the Nikulin Moscow Circus in Tsvetnoy Boulevard.
Since 2011, Vyksa, Nizhniy Novgorod Region, has been the site of the Art-Ovrag International Urban Culture Festival organized by the Foundation with OMK support. The event brings together personalities from the world of culture and art from all over the country and enables local residents to implement their own creative projects. The Festival helps build a comfortable urban environment in Vyksa and improve the region's tourist potential and its residents' social activity.
In 2018, the Foundation received a presidential grant to develop civil society, and hosted the first National Conference on Small Urban and Historical Communities in Vyksa in October. The experience of the OMK-Uchastiye Foundation and OMK was presented among the best cases for the improvement of public spaces and participatory design.
"For us, charity starts with an impulse for kindness. A person would tell him or herself: I can! I can share what I have: money, experience, time, skill, the warmth of my soul. By doing what we are, we are showing everyone that it is easy to do good. Large amounts of money are not required to help someone in difficulty. Sometimes, it is sufficient to open one's heart, be close, and provide support with one's sincere emotions.
We are happy that there are ever more people prepared to share. We are sincerely grateful to the Foundation's donors, friends, helpers, and numerous partners for invaluable support over the course of the years", said Irina Sedykh, Chair of the Supervisory Board, OMK-Uchastiye Charity Foundation.
