OMK’s Chelyabinsk Facility Delivers Shipment of Fittings to Iraqi West Qurna-2 Petroleum Pipeline

The United Metallurgical Company's Chelyabinsk facility (AO Trubodetal, Chelyabinsk, manufacturing center of AO Trubodetal Business Unit) manufactured and shipped 52 bends for the Iraqi West Qurna-2 pipeline.

Bends 24 inches (609.6 mm) in diameter were manufactured with insulation as required by the ASME B16.49 international standard.  The manufacturing method was hot high-frequency bending.

The customer required that the pipe should come from the same manufacturer's lot. To fill this order, OMK's Chelyabinsk facility used pipe from another Company facility: the plant in Vyksa (Nizhniy Novgorod Region). Collaboration between OMK facilities helps guarantee excellent quality of the final product. The customer imposed special requirements on the inside diameter of the bends and their mechanical properties. As well as the insulation thickness and type.

“The order for components for an international pipeline became a serious test for the process engineers and the operators involved in all operations. The customer imposed stringent requirements on the items’ dimensions and mechanical properties as well as the insulation materials and application.  The facility employees have demonstrated their willingness to do quality work in a timely manner”, noted OMK Trubodetal Business Unit CEO Yuri Suniayev.
