In 4 Years OMK’s Belgorod Plant Delivers Over 4,000 Tons of Lines to Kudankulam NPP in India

The United Metallurgical Company Belgorod facility (OOO Belenergomash-BZEM) manufactured and delivered 4,100 tons of lines between 2017 and 2020 designed for the reactor rooms of Power Generation Units 3 and 4 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant being constructed in India. AO Atomstroyexport is the general contractor for the project.

In particular, the facility shipped 1,160 tons of high-quality lines with support and suspension components. The lines ranging in OD from 14 to 630 mm were made from carbon and alloyed steel grades. The larger-diameter lines were manufactured using the electro-flux remelting process while the medium-sized tubulars were made by forging and drilling. Most of the product delivered by the facility is safety category 2 or 3.

It is a significant advantage for the facility’s partners that the OMK facility has a wealth of experience manufacturing for the nuclear industry as well as state-of-the-art equipment, and the ability to fill multiple orders on a compressed schedule. The Belgorod facility will continue deliveries to the Kudankulam NPP through 2024.

“In 2021, we will manufacture and ship to the customer over 2,000 tons of lines, including a shipment made of titanium, for the reactor rooms of Power Generation Units 3 and 4. In power engineering, titanium is considered one of the most reliable materials for lines used to transport aggressive media. This is because it has an elevated resistance to corrosion processes as compared to items made of less corrosion-resistant materials and alloys. All our product undergoes strict quality control at all phases of the manufacturing cycle, is made under licenses for nuclear installations, and is fully compliant with the strictest domestic and international standards”, commented OOO Belenergomash-BZEM Managing Director Alexander Vashchenko.

The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant is the largest such facility in India. A total of six power generation units are being constructed, including two that have already been commissioned. OMK’s Belgorod facility is involved in the construction of all six units.
