OMK-Uchastiye Charity Foundation Offers Season's Greetings to Young Patients at Moscow Cancer Center

The OMK-Uchastiye Charity Foundation (established by a group of United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) executives and employees) held a New Year event for patients from the pediatric ward at the N. N. Blokhin National Cancer Research Medical Center in Moscow as part of its Donate a Christmas Tree annual charity drive.

These young patients have been quarantined at the healthcare facility for months; therefore, for the first time, the New Year show was out in the street and unfolded under the windows on a specially constructed stage. The mood for the young audience was created by the Chudaki People and Puppet Show, the Snowman Wind Orchestra, and Andrey Klimak, a performer with Vyacheslav Polunin's Snow Show.

It looked like the appearance of Santa was the performance’s long-awaited highlight. Despite the distance, he was able to engage the young audience in an interactive performance. He talked to the young patients over the phone, listened to their New Year requests, offered them season’s greetings and made the most important wish of health to everyone. The audience responded with their phone’s flashlights. In conclusion, the words “We love you” were illuminated for the audience.

“We have a special place for children in our Foundation's programs. We try and care for them and offer every assistance. Despite the fact, that these young patients have to face very grown-up issues at the cancer center every day, they are still children. By holding this Donate a Christmas Tree event every year, we want to charge the children with positive energy and give them a feeling that miracles do happen”, noted OMK-Uchastiye Charity Foundation General Manager Yuliya Mishina.

The Donate a Christmas Tree drive has been an annual event sponsored by the OMK Uchastiye Foundation for the benefit of the children being treated at the cancer center since 2012. Every year, the project is enhanced and expanded with new partners and volunteers joining all the time. In 2020, the New Year event was held at a safe distance from the audience for the first time.
