OMK's Belgorod Facility Delivers Steel Structures for New Airport Terminal in Gelendzhik

The Belgorod Power Engineering Plant (OOO Belenergomash-BZEM, Belgorod, a United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) subsidiary) has delivered 300 tons of structural steel for the Gelendzhik airport complex' new terminal (Krasnodar Territory).

The order was filled in collaboration with Vyksa Steel Works (AO VSW, Nizhniy Novgorod Region) which is also an OMK subsidiary. The ossature's structural pillars were made from VSW pipe with an outside diameter of 1,200 and a wall gage of 40 mm.

What is unique about the structure is that it requires that over 1,000 welded supports (stud bolts) as well as sliding rebar locks be installed inside each pillar. Thanks to their use, the structure has enhanced reliability and seismic stability which is required in the seismically active regions of Southern Russia. In addition, this product configuration helped save time in the assembly and installation.

The new terminal is expected to be commissioned by the start of the beach season in 2022. Given the compressed construction schedule, Belenergomash manufactured and delivered the product within four weeks instead of the usual 45 to 60 days. All the skeleton components arrived at the construction site in early July. The quick and reliable performance enabled the builder to install the lower sections of the pillars in their design positions in a timely manner to pour the foundations.

"The facility team has many years' experience fabricating steel structures for airports. This helps us fill orders of any complexity, including those with compressed schedules. The critical application is yet another testament to the extreme reliability of Belenergomash's product and its compliance with the highest quality requirements", commented OOO Belenergomash-BZEM Director for Structural Steel Production Dmitri Gorban.
