OMK's Facility in Chelyabinsk Acquires Capability for Import Replacement Fittings for LNG Plants

The Trubodetal Facility (AO Trubodetal, Chelyabinsk, a United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) subsidiary) has acquired the capability to manufacture import replacement bends with diameters of between 1/2 and 18 inches (21.3 to 457 mm) from stainless, alloyed, and carbon steel grades per the ASME B16.9 international standard.

Compliance with this standard is mandatory when designing pipeline systems for liquefied natural gas production plants, petrochemical, and gas processing plants of foreign design and using licensed processes. And these include most of the facilities currently being designed and built in Russia. At the present time, international companies and their representatives are acting as key suppliers of ASME/ANSI-compliant pipeline fittings for such facilities.

Trubodetal has already acquired the capability for bends to such specifications as ASTM A420/A420M, ASTM A403/A403M, and ASTM A234/A234M. New product is manufactured using hot drawing of pipe stock cut to specific sizes over a horn-shaped mandrel as well as die forging. Once the revamping is complete, the facility will begin manufacturing tees, adapters, and caps and the capacity for bends made from stainless, alloyed, and carbon steels will increase.

Trubodetal's import replacement product will help customers get high-quality items at a more advantageous price than that offered by foreign suppliers while staying within the licensor's design guidelines.

"Russia is designing and building a large number of integrated gas processing facilities with a demand for products using the Imperial system and  manufactured to international standards. Our facility offers this fast-growing market a wide spectrum of high-quality improved-performance product required to build these installations and replacing similar imported items", noted Trubodetal Managing Director Evgeny Baranov.

BACKGROUND

The ASME/ANSI standard was adopted by a public body called the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The American Society of Mechanical Engineers has to do with many industrial sectors, such as nuclear, the oil sector, automotive, power generation, metal making (fittings and welded components), instrumentation systems, automotive security systems, boilers and pressure vessels, etc. The ASME/ANSI B16.9 code applies to the overall dimensions, the tolerances, the test methods, and the markings of shop-made forged fittings designed for butt welding and sizes ranging from NPS 1/2" to NPS 48" (DN 15 to DN 1200).
