OMK Increases Aid to Areas of Operation to RUB 150 million

The United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) will allocate RUB 150 million to support medical facilities and residents in the areas where its plants operate. The principal thrusts include support for healthcare facilities, non-profits, social businesses and volunteers, testing, procurement of food for people finding themselves in difficult circumstances because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In particular, RUB 100 million are being earmarked by OMK to support the Nizhniy Novgorod Region (which is home to Vyksa Steel Works, the Company's largest facility). For the region's medical facilities, the Company procured 55 ventilators of various models and over 1,000,000 items of personal protective gear. OMK funding was also used for repairs and oxygen equipment retrofits at the infectious disease wards of the Vyksa and the Kulebaki Central District Hospitals as well as coronavirus testing of Vyksa residents.

OMK helped purchase medical equipment for medical facilities in the Belgorod Region (OOO Belenergomash-BZEM being the local Company facility) and the Novosineglazovo neighborhood of Chelyabinsk (AO Trubodetal being the local OMK facility). It also helped medical facilities in the Central Federal District. The Company spent a total of RUB 20,000,000 on this aid.

Non-profits being funded through the OMK Partnership Competitions for grants in Moscow, Chelyabinsk, Almetyevsk, Vyksa, and Chusovoy and social businesses in Chusovoy, Blagoveshchensk, and Vyksa are getting closely involved in the battle against the coronavirus as part of OMK's Start Your Own Business Program. Organizations have launched various online programs and re-purposed to produce personal protective gear which had become in short supply in many locations. The total amount allocated by OMK for the non-profit competition for grants and the various social business programs is RUB 18.3 million. (The local Company facility in Almetyevsk is the Almetyevsk Pipe Mill, AO ATZ, the local facility in Chusovoy is the Chusovoy Metallurgical Works, AO ChMW, and the local facility in Blagoveshchensk, Republic of Bashkortostan, is the Blagoveshchensk Valve Plant, AO BAZ).

The OMK-Uchastiye Charity Foundation established by OMK management is undertaking a number of projects designed to assist Vyksa residents. The Foundation has already provided aid to 3,500 people finding themselves in difficult circumstances during this time of lockdown. The Foundation purchases foodstuffs that Vyksa volunteers put together into care packages to be delivered to seniors and residents with mobility issues as well as low-income families and households with many children.

In the first month, volunteers distributed over 2,100 such care packages, and aid is continuing. At the present time, the Foundation is also beginning to offer aid to people left without an income as well as families with many children aged between 16 and 18 that are finding themselves in a difficult situation but are not eligible for any Government program.

OMK-Uchastiye acted as organizer of a unique media project (GUL - Town of Wonderful People, GUL also means "hum" - Translator's Note). The temporary GUL media is a source of information regarding the coronavirus situation and an online platform used by the best experts and the town residents themselves to talk about ways to survive the quarantine and the lockdown with minimum loss, to come out stronger, to acquire new experience and skill. The media project is based at gul.vyksafest.com as well as in social media.

"It is very important to act in concert now. To help our doctors do their duty with as little health risk as possible, to support orphaned seniors and residents that lost their sources of income because of the quarantine restrictions. We thank all medical personnel, volunteers, manufacturing facility personnel working through these difficult times, including those employed at round-the-clock operations, supporting the functioning of towns and the economy. I am convinced that a concerted effort will help bring the medical situation back to normal more quickly. OMK is watching the situation in its areas of operation to initiate additional humanitarian aid programs where needed", noted OMK Governance Board Chair Natalya Eremina.
