VSW Completes Assembly of Over Half the Seamless Pipe Mill Facility Building

Vyksa Steel Works (AO VSW, Nizhniy Novgorod Region, a United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) subsidiary) has assembled over 50% of the structural metal from the design 21,000 tons required for the building of the future pipe mill that will manufacture seamless casing.

The builders have already commenced the installation of the roof and the wall panels around the perimeter of the building under construction.

They are also working on the infrastructure: building the step-down substation and a gas distribution station, designing water treatment equipment for the future facility. They previously built a site water supply system, installed 4 complete transformer substations for temporary power supply.
The building is being designed by two design institutions. The general contractor for the work is the OMK capital construction directorate.

"We expect the building skeleton to be ready by February 2020. All the foundations for the facility building were completed in the first half of the year. We are on schedule. Over 20 companies with more than 300 people are doing work at the site", recounted VSW Seamless Mill Project Manager Alexey Sedyshev.

The foundation for the first column of the mill building was laid in April 2019. The new facility is scheduled to be commissioned in 2021. It will produce seamless casing, tubing, and line pipe 73 to 273 mm in diameter with semi-premium and premium connections.

The new facility is expected to meet the growing domestic demand for tubulars for oil production, reduce dependence on imports, and develop export potential. The facility will have the capacity to make over 500,000 tons of seamless pipe per year. The amount to be invested into new production is over RUB 50 billion. Commissioning the new facility in Vyksa will create over 1,000 new high-tech jobs.
