NLMK Completed Delivery of 5,000,000 Tons of Steel Slab to VSW

The Novolipetsk Metal Combine (an NLMK Group company) has completed the delivery of 5,000,000 tons of slab to Vyksa Steel Works (AO VSW, a United Metallurgical Company subsidiary). The companies entered into a long-term delivery contract for the Novolipetsk slab back in 2012. The NLMK steel ingot is used by the VSW Wide Plate Mill 5000 to make wide plate to be rolled into large-diameter pipe. VSW's state-of-the-art plate and large-diameter pipe making technologies building on the high-quality NLMK slab guarantee that pipe for trunk pipelines is world-class. This is evidenced by OMK involvement in domestic and international pipeline projects to the tune of at least a third of the total requirement. These include Nord Stream-2, TurkStream, Power of Siberia, Eastern Siberia-Pacific, Bovanenkovo-Ukhta, Ukta-Torzhok, Central Asia-China, Subarctic-Purpe, and a number of others. Over their many years of collaboration, NLMK and VSW have established a joint technical council with a view to improving product and developing new steel grades. "While being involved in projects of national significance, the NLMK Group has already delivered to OMK 5 million tons of steel that is being made into high-quality large-diameter pipe. This new important collaboration milestone is a shining example of a mutually beneficial and efficient partnership with a customer in a single process space", commented NLMK Vice-President for Sales Ilya Gushchin. "A single sequence to manufacture pipe that OMK and NLMK have been able to build has enabled us to substitute for imports and supply Russian energy companies with first-quality product. Large-diameter pipe of domestic manufacture is being used to build the largest international and national oil and gas lines which has helped reduce imports of this type of product almost to nothing", noted OMK Chief Commercial Officer Eduard Stepantsov.
