Vyksa Steel Works (AO VSW, Nizhniy Novgorod Region, a United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) subsidiary is undertaking an investment project to install two high-precision automated systems to improve the efficiency and the quality of train wheel geometric checks. In particular, the measurement precision for wheel diameters will improve by a factor of 10: from 1 mm to 0.1 mm. The equipment supplier is OOO Marvi (Samara).
The new systems are equipped with laser 2D profile meters which will eventually significantly increase the number of wheel test parameters measured based on increasing customer requirements. This is tantamount to reaching a new quality and technology level in manufacturing critical rolling stock components.
"The systems that are currently installed in our wheel-making facility are sufficient to meet our customers' current requirements., However, measurement precision standards increase every year. Which we should be ready for. This new equipment is unique, having been custom made for our production line. It will help us make wheels to more stringent requirements", commented AO VSW Managing Director Alexander Barykov.
As part of the project, VSW has completed some foundation work and installed metal structures. Equipment installation and commissioning are expected in short order. Production is scheduled to start in the third quarter of the current year. All activities are being undertaken without shutting down production.
