On October 2017, acting Nizhniy Novgorod Regional Governor Gleb Nikitin paid a visit to the Town of Vyksa.
Gleb Nikitin visited the manufacturing facilities at Vyksa Steel Works (AO VSW, an OMK company). He also visited Wide Plate Mill-5000 which makes wide plate as well as the pipe mill that makes large-diameter pipes used for the largest Russian and international pipelines.
Following the VSW visit, Gleb Nikitin, Acting Nizhniy Novgorod Regional Governor, and Anatoly Sedykh, Chairman of the OMK Board of Directors, had a working meeting. The meeting was also attended by OMK Governance Board Chair Natalya Eremina, OMK President Vladimir Markin, and VSW Managing Director Alexander Barykov. Meeting topics included the support offered manufacturing facilities at the regional and the federal levels.
“We have come to the conclusion that we have to become more involved in upgrades to legislation at the Federal level where it has to do with modifying special investment contract requirements with respect to the amounts of revenue. While with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, I formulated proposals to that effect. Right now, having moved to the regional level of government, I have to aid my colleagues defend this point of view and implement the changes”, noted Gleb Nikitin. “In addition, we are discussing the staffing support issue. Increased productivity at OMK facilities used to result in cuts to the workforce. But the investment projects being discussed at this time should create new jobs. Workers from outside of town will probably be required.”
“Currently, VSW is proceeding with a large-scale investment project of RUB 40 billion. It includes, among other things, the construction of a finishing facility and electric resistance welding pipe mill No. 1. Once the project is complete, we will proceed to the manufacture of a product we previously did not make, namely, oil production tubing, and expand our product offering in threaded casing used in field construction. Yesterday, we looked at several new investment projects of similar size involving VSW. Investments into manufacturing facilities are not the only way we are trying to help Vyksa develop. Next year, we will be holding another Art-Ovrag Festival, opening a social time club at the Batashev-Shepelev estate, and continuing to operate the art residence. Many other interesting cultural and other events are also being planned. Vyksa residents will be pleasantly surprised”, Anatoly Sedykh emphasized.
In the course of the visit, the acting governor inspected items of social infrastructure: the Batashev-Shepelev industrial site and estate, the Central Recreation Park, the parts of the Iversky Convent that have been restored as well as the I. I. Lepse Social Club.
Gleb Nikitin’s stay in Vyksa concluded with a meeting with representatives of non-government associations and organizations, the business community, elected officials, and other residents of the municipal district. Participants discussed issues of importance to the residents of Vyksa, including the development of the roadways and the social infrastructure, support for small businesses as well as important issues in housing and utilities.
