OMK Completes Third Blood Drive This Year

The Moscow Office of the United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) hosted its third blood drive this year co-sponsored by the Federal Biomedical Agency Blood Center.

OMK Board Chair Natalya Eremina gave blood alongside other Company employees. Thanks to over 60 participants, the drive was able to collect 25 liters of blood and raise over 5,000 rubles for the OMK-Uchastiye Charity Foundation.

The blood products collected through blood drives help doctors save lives during emergency surgeries and situations. Rare blood types are always in demand: B (Rh+ and Rh-) accounting for only 13% of the population, and especially, AB Rh– that is present statistically in only 7% of the population.

OMK employees have been giving blood during blood drives for the past 9 years, and there are about 30 people that give blood regularly, every quarter. Being a donor requires regular physical screens. By running quick tests and examining a donor, a doctor can make early diagnoses of hypo- and hypertension, anemia, gastric disorders, diabetes mellitus, and inflammations.
