VSW Ships First Batch of Casing from New Finishing Facility

In July 2018, Vyksa Steel Works (AO VSW, Nizhniy Novgorod Region, an United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) Subsidiary) shipped the first batch of casing with OTTM thread to OOO Gazpromneft-Hantos. The pipe will be used to construct wells in the north-eastern section of the Palyanovo Area of the Krasnoleninsky Oil Field.

The pipe of diameter 324 mm and wall gage 9.5 mm was manufactured at VSW ERW Pipe Mill No. 3 and subsequently threaded at the finishing facility where couplings were also installed and pressure tested. The range of pipe delivered is new for VSW.

“Thanks to the finishing facility, we are now able to make improved-quality casing of diameters 139.7 through 426 mm that can be operated even under the most demanding conditions”, commented AO VSW Managing Director Alexander Barykov.

BACKGROUND:

The pipe finishing facility is a project that is part of an entire investment program to develop Vyksa Steel Works’ oil and gas line pipe business which includes new facilities and new equipment for existing ones as well as upgrades, revampings. The total amount to be invested under this program is over RUB 40 billion. The finishing facility’s design capacity is 100,000 tons of product per year. Previously, VSW manufactured casing of diameters 146 through 245 mm.

Casing is used to reinforce oil and gas wells during drilling and subsequent production. Its primary purpose is to maintain the integrity of the well wall throughout production; therefore, casing should provide sufficient strength to be able to withstand any soil shifts.
