VSW Delivered Wheels of In-House Design for High-Speed Passenger Trains

Vyksa Steel Works (AO VSW, Nizhniy Novgorod Region, a United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) subsidiary) delivered a consignment of high-speed train wheels of in-house design to the Tver Car Manufacturing Facility (OAO TVZ, belongs to ZAO Transmashholding).

The new wheels may be used at speeds of up to 200 kph. Previously, OMK had been selling to TVZ standard train wheels that may be used on passenger cars traveling at speeds of up to 160 kph. When developing the new wheels, VSW specialists used the patented low-stress disc design that supports improved wheelset resistance to fatigue and load-bearing capacity. The new technology was developed and commissioned by the VSW technology and engineering center and production personnel in record time.

“In the first quarter of this year, we made a pilot batch of the wheels, and their high performance was confirmed during certification testing at the Tver Institute of Railway Car Engineering. Based on the testing, a compliance certificate for the requirements of the Customs Union Technical Regulation was issued to us in June. The success of the project was largely due to collaboration with TVZ personnel to develop the capability for wheels for the Ivolga trains”, noted AO VSW Managing Director Alexander Barykov.
