VSW Completes 10,000,000 Tons of Hot-Rolled Coil

Vyksa Steel Works (AO VSW, Nizhniy Novgorod Region, an AO OMK (Moscow) subsidiary) has put out 10,000,000 tons of hot-rolled steel coil since it commissioned its Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility. The Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility was placed in operation in 2008 and became the first steel mill constructed in Russia's recent history.

VSW's Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility produces hot-rolled coil with gages of between 1 and 12.7 mm and a width of 1,750 mm, plate, and strip. The integrated facility is designed to produce feedstock for the manufacture of small and medium-sized tubulars at VSW and the Almetyevsk Pipe Mill (AO ATZ, Republic of Tatarstan, an OMK company).

"Over the past few years, the team at VSW's Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility has set dozens of production records while the amounts of steel produced exceeded the Facility's design capacity on multiple occasions. In-house steel production helps us be more agile in the market and deliver high-quality tubulars to our customers on very short lead times", noted Chief Commercial Officer Eduard Stepantsov.

BACKGROUND:

OMK commissioned its Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility in 2008. The Facility employs 1,000 people. The investment into the Facility exceeded RUB 37 billion. The Facility is continuously developing and implementing new steel grades.

Over the years it has been in operation, the Casting and Rolling Facility has acquired the capability for making over 200 types of rolled goods and over 50 steel grades, including high-strength and corrosion-resistant ones. Despite the Facility being designed to make rolled goods for the pipe sector, it is capable of producing a very broad range of product, including rolled goods for the ship-building industry.

The Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility is know as a useful platform for integrating innovative technologies. The Facility is working continuously to integrate new steel grades, including unique advanced grades custom-developed for specific clients. The Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility's rolled goods meet the requirements of international standards, such as GOST and EN 10025-1:2004, are TUV-Rheinland certified evidencing compliance with EU requirements imposed on the safety of materials used to manufacture construction and pressure equipment. The Facility's quality and production systems are certified to ISO 9001:2008.

The Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility plays a very important part in creating OMK's vertically integrated structure for small and medium-sized tubulars.
