Almetyevsk Pipe Mill Opens Training Center

The Almetyevsk Pipe Mill (AO ATZ, Republic of Tatarstan, a United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) facility) inaugurated an in-house training center.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Toyota expert Tatsumi Kimura who audited production development at OMK facilities based on the principles of the Toyota Total Production System.

Together with ATZ Managing Director Alexander Tokarev, they cut the ribbon and presented a symbolic training center key to Center Director Natalya Krupskaya on November 27.

The plant’s administrative and utility building allocated over 700 square meters to house eight regular classrooms and one computer classroom furnished with training aids and communications equipment. The training will be provided by three staff instructors and seven key specialists and managers from the plant.

“The decision to open a training center has been begging itself for several years. Ever more frequently, the facility has to contend with a shortage of skilled trades. There simply are no educational institutions in the region that would train pipe mill welders, for instance, or rolled goods flattener operators. The center will also help save money for primary production. Going forward, the facility will be able to provide personnel training services to other manufacturing facilities in the region, create instructional videos, information bulletin boards, brochures, and other printed matter for use in production”, noted AO ATZ Managing Director Alexander Tokarev.

ATZ is primarily planning to use the training center to train its own employees. Emphasis will be placed on the trades. There are about 40 at ATZ. One of the training center’s primary focus areas will industrial safety training and testing.

The instruction process is automated using OLIMPOKS software. It will help trainees read up for tests and certifications as well as get certified and tested later. In addition, the training center will make broad use of the OMK automated instruction system tools.
