The United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) has been recognized with a medal for promoting the construction of civil society in the Chelyabinsk Region. OMK was decorated for holding the OMK Partnership Competition for grants for social and charity initiatives in the Chelyabinsk Region (AO OMK being represented by AO Trubodetal in the Chelyabinsk Region).
The decoration was presented at the South Urals Civil Forum held in Chelyabinsk between September 28 and 29, 2017. The medal was presented by Deputy Chelyabinsk Regional Governor and gubernatorial chief of staff Evgeny Golitsyn. OMK acted as the Forum’s general co-sponsor.
The plenary session dealing with civil society as a driver of economic development was attended by OMK Lead for Corporate Social Responsibility Olga Mironova. She noted that “there is a misconception that corporate social responsibility is all about charity. In actuality, charity could become one of the areas of social responsibility but not replace it. Corporate social responsibility is related to the development strategy. It is finding new positive ideas, new opportunities to interact with different stakeholders, including businesses, employees, non-profits, local communities, and Government. The OMK Partnership competition for grants is a case in point demonstrating that an interaction tool like that exists and is effective.”
Also, Trubodetal Personnel, Public Relations, and Corporate Services Director Olga Khontnianskaya spoke at a forum session that focused on the unique features of interfacing with big business presenting on implementing corporate social responsibility programs, such as the OMK Partnership Competition.
“OMK spends a lot of effort helping develop the non-profit sector and volunteerism in communities where we operate. Support form the local communities, a constructive dialog between the company, Government, and civil society is the foundation of sustainable development both for businesses and the provinces. In recent years, OMK has accumulated considerable experience in building long-term systemic programs in the development of non-profits, social business initiatives, and volunteerism and is prepared to share it with companies in the Chelyabinsk Region”, commented OMK Governance Board Chair Natalya Eremina.
