OMK Expands Production of Pipes and Steel for Construction Industry

The United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) is planning to have its Vyksa Steel Works (AO VSW, Nizhniy Novgorod Region) facility boost production of large shaped pipe with dimensions of up to 300 x 300 mm 20%. This expansion is to be part of a program to increase sales to the construction industry.

The material is designed to be used when implementing advanced construction solutions, such as building skyscrapers, shopping malls, stadiums, and other large-scale installations. Large shaped pipe is made at the upgraded 203-530 mill in the facility's ERW Shop 3 using steels of grades Ст3сп5, 09Г2С, С245, С255, С345 made at the VSW Integrated Casting and Rolling Facility.

"We see a lot of potential in tubulars for the construction industry. Metal products are finding ever expanding applications in this field. As far as we are concerned, it is an interesting challenge. We make high-quality large shaped pipe since they are the kind that offers maximum safety when installations are operated", noted OMK Chief Commercial Officer Eduard Stepantsov.

Background

Shaped pipe is of square or rectangular section. It is used to manufacture structural metal for various construction needs. VSW 2016 production of large shaped pipe stood at over 37,000 tons. Overall, the company made over 230,000 tons of shaped pipe which is some 34% more than in 2015.
OMK is also a supplier of steel sheet of grades 09Г2С, Ст3, С390 to the construction industry. Such sheet steel is capable of withstanding loads of up to 440 MPa.
