OMK President Honored with Metallurgist Emeritus Title

The Russian Federation Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued a directive whereby United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) President Vladimir Markin is being given the title of Metallurgist Emeritus for an important contribution to and outstanding achievement in developing the industry, commissioning new facilities, and many years of honest service. The decoration was presented by Russia's Minister of Trade and Industry Denis Manturov.
The presentation ceremony was held at an extended executive session at the Russian Ministry of Trade and Industry. The event had to do with a discussion of industry results in 2016 and developments in key areas, including the import substitution program as well as defining targets and objectives for 2017.
The meeting was also attended by Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev, Deputy Prime Ministers Arkady Dvorkovich and Dmitri Rogozin, Minister for “Open Government” Mikhail Abyzov, Alexander Shokhin, Chair of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Industry Development Foundation Director Alexey Komissarov, and other Government officials.
OMK has established in Central Russia a unique Russian hi-tech cluster to manufacture quality pipe, pipeline connectors, and valves. The Company has one of the world's most advanced integrated facilities to manufacture large-diameter pipe of any level of complexity and is a market leader in the manufacture of railway wheels and vehicle springs. OMK plays a key part is keeping the nation’s energy and transportation sectors supplied with high-quality domestic metal product. Vladimir Markin has contributed considerably to achieving this very positive outcome.


Vladimir Markin has been OMK President since April 2006.
He has been part of the Company management team since 2001. He has held the offices of OOO OMK TC General Manager as well as OMK Director for Sales and Marketing. Mr. Markin rose through the ranks from assistant foreman at a finishing section at Vyksa Steel Works to Deputy Manager of a large-diameter pipe facility to Sales and Marketing Department Manager to Deputy Director General. He was born in 1954. He is a graduate of the Moscow Institute of Allows and Steel and qualified as a metallurgical engineer.
The Metallurgist Emeritus title is conferred on workers, professionals, office personnel, and company executives that have spent at least 15 years working in the industry for considerable meritorious contribution to the development of the metal industry and metal recycling facilities, for developing and implementing innovative advanced and energy efficient, energy saving, and environmentally friendly technologies, conducting successful and effective research, undertaking innovation and invention, developing and implementing actions designed to improve production management and to achieve broad dissemination of best practices.
