OMK President holds working meetings with trade union representatives from company facilities

United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) President Vladimir Markin met OMK facility delegates to the VIII-th Congress of the Russian Mining and Metallurgical Trade Union (RMMTU). The Company’s 2016 performance was discussed along with the facility workload and expansion plans for 2017.

The meeting held at OMK’s Moscow office was attended by 11 trade-union congress delegates from Vyksa Steel Works (AO VSW, Nizhniy Novgorod Region) and three trade-union representatives from the Chusovoy Metallurgical Works (AO CMW, Perm Territory), including facility committee chairs, shopfloor committee chairs, and trade union group organizers, members of veterans’ and young employee councils.

Issues of expanding social monitoring were also discussed at the meeting as a collaborative project of employer and trade unions to identify and address social problems within employee teams via a “social score card”. OMK's President informed the delegates of the Company's remuneration policy and changes to benefits based on the outcomes of the completed special assessment of working conditions.

“We had a good constructive exchange, this having been the first meeting of this kind involving Company management. We exchanged ideas regarding different matters related to a social partnership. We decided to join forces in introducing the social score card which is a wonderful tool for addressing social problems among employees. We thank Vladimir Markin for finding the time to meet even though he has a busy schedule”, noted VSW Facility Trade Union Committee Chair Fedor Tuvayev.

“We were happy to meet with the unions when they suggested a meeting. I thank the delegates for their genuine interest in the Company's future plans, its strategic objectives, and prospects. It is very important that the meeting was attended not only by facility chairs but also by shop-level leaders and local group organizers”, said OMK President Vladimir Markin summarizing the outcomes of the event.

Background

The meeting was part of an effort to expand on OMK's social partnership principles developed by the Company's Social Council.

The Social Council was established in 2015. This is a forum in which OMK management representatives and company employees hold consultations with each other. It includes facility HR directors, chairs of the grass-roots trade union cells and executives from the management company.
