Vyksa Steel Works (AO VSW, Nizhniy Novgorod Region, a United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) Subsidiary) has performed a successful hot test of a pipe protective coating applicator at the pipe finishing facility. The new installation from Venjakob (Germany) will be used to coat pipes in a special UV lacquer to protect the surface of the metal from the effects of the environment and prevent corrosion in transit, including transportation by boat.
In the course of the hot test, the UV coating was applied to smooth pipes of diameter 426 mm. In conjunction with commissioning, Venjakob personnel also conducted classroom and hands-on training in equipment operations for VSW employees, including repair, process, and automation personnel.
This protective coat is transparent which enables markings previously applied to the metal pipes to be read. This coating may be used with pipes of all sizes that are processed by the VSW finishing facility, i. e. from 140 to 426 mm.
Similar Venjakob installations are in operation at VSW's ERW Shops 3 and 5. For the finishing facility, suppler and VSW engineers modified the line equipping it with a powerful pipe pre-paint drying booth as well as a water purification and treatment station of greater capacity.
