OMK Project to Build Casing Finishing Facility Wins Award in National Competition

A project undertaken by the United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) to construct a high-tech finishing facility for casing being implemented in the Nizhniy Novgorod Region was named winner of the National Project Olympus 2018 in the Project of the Year category.

The competition is held by the Analytical Center for the Government of the Russian Federation for the country’s Government-owned and private corporations. Award presentation was held in Ulyanovsk at an international conference entitled “Project Management 2018: Government, Digital Economy, Infrastructure”. As part of the competition, a panel of experts audited the overall OMK project management system and project management for the specific finishing facility investment project.

A casing finishing facility with a design capacity of 100,000 tons of pipe a year is a component of an expansion program at the Vyksa Steel Works (AO VSW, Nizhniy Novgorod Region, an OMK company) Oil and Gas Line Pipe Business Unit. The program includes setting up new manufacturing facilities, upgrading, revamping as well as re-equipping the existing pipe mills.

“OMK’s first place in a national competition is high praise for OMK’s and VSW's project management systems that have been developing for as long as 15 years as well as the coordinated professional effort by all the corporate functions involved in the various projects”, commented OMK Chief Asset Development and Investment Officer Dmitri Chernyshev.

BACKGROUND:

Once the Oil and Gas Line Pipe Business Unit expansion program at Vyksa Steel Works is complete, OMK will be able to offer oil and gas leaders it has partnered with casing, tubing, and line pipe with improved properties and meet their most stringent quality requirements. The total budget for the program is in excess of RUB 40 billion.
