The United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) participated in a round table discussion centered around responsible procurement in a supply chain: advantages and challenges for businesses and held by the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE) Committee for Social Corporate Responsibility and Population Policy. The round table reviewed past Russian and international experience in building responsible supply chains as well as successful transnational and Russian practices.
Responsibility within a supply chain is an important business practice related to advanced management practices. Per the UN Global Compact, a sustainable supply chain implies the management of environmental, social, and economic risks throughout the entire life cycle of a product or a service, responsible vendor relationship management.
The round table was moderated by RUIE Managing Director for Corporate Responsibility, Sustainable Development, and Social Entrepreneurship Elena Feoktistova and AFK Sistema Public Relations Director Dmitry Kolchugin. Discussions involved RUIE committee members, business people, and members of the expert community.
OMK's knowledge in supply chain planning was presented by Planning Methodology Corporate Department Manager Oleg Osminkin.
"For OMK, managing the supply chain is equivalent to managing competitive advantages which is essentially the same as managing the business. We develop them by improving the principal manufacturing and business processes. Most of our divisions' supply chains see reliable order fulfillment as a key advantage which is indicative of the Company's highly developed sense of responsibility", noted Oleg Osminkin.
