The United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK, Moscow) introduces a single corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy. The policy defines the Company’s strategy and priorities in its societal interactions as well as a management system for the principal components of CSR.
Communication with stakeholders, such as customers, contractors, and vendors, employees, government agencies, and non-profits is one of the principal aspects of CSR as far as the Company is concerned. Stakeholders are invited to participate in the decision making process whereas developing a dialog is based on transparency and accountability subject to international corporate disclosure standards. The policy also defines priorities in anti-corruption, human rights, procurement of goods and services, communication with consumers, child protection, and development of areas of operation.
Pursuant to this new policy, OMK is proceeding with the definition of new key performance indicators for CSR priorities at Company facilities as well as risk tracking in this area. For each aspect, focus areas and the organizations responsible have been defined which is the best practice at this time. HR directorates at the various facilities, for instance, monitor human rights performance based on relevant standards, eliminating discrimination, psychological abuse and physical violence, offensive language, providing equal opportunities for all employees.
“Our Company is responsible about human rights, industrial health, local community development, procurement, and other aspects, and we have already developed appropriate practices. The new policy lays the foundations for an effective system which will help consolidate information in all these areas and make plans going forward based on all the stakeholders’ desires”, noted OMK Deputy Board Chair Natalya Eremina.
